LITTLE SIMZ FLOWERS FT. MICHAEL KIWANUKA

North London experimental hip-hop artist Little Simz shines through with a diamond-like quality. Her music is so unique and refined. She's a wordsmith, an incredible composer and also an established actor. A new video has just landed for her song 'Flowers ft. Michael Kiwanuka', a song which first featured on Simz' latest album Grey Area. It's transfixing and devastatingly sad song about the premature deaths of many talented artists. The video is a live performance and a fresh recording. It portrays Michael Kiwanuka and Simz swaying to the intro, engulfed by the music. Simz' flow and sorrow in her eyes sends shivers down the spine as she raps with such passion about pain and tragedy that is suffered: "The good fly young, the good are our greats, Jimi, Basquiat, Amy, Roberts, Janis, Kurt Cobain". There is a warm 1970's feel to the video - with lamps and plants decorating the brown and purple backdrop. The band stay fairly static, swaying to the beat. Kiwanuka sings with eyes closed, almost in prayer-like respect to those talented artists who have lost their lives. The video becomes more of a celebration towards the end, when Little Simz steps away from the microphone and begins dancing with a glass of red wine in hand. The video captures a very pure and touching expression of such an emotionally captivating song -Ellie Rose-Davies
